Changing the station bitrate
After receiving more complaints about distorted sound, I'm bumping the station audio stream to 64kbps. It is currently at 32kbps. I'm tired of dealing with this issue.
I'm sorry if you are on dial-up connections and can't connect but there is a bug in the Live365 software which hasn't be fixed yet and it affects 32kbps steams. If you look at the poll results above you'll see that only 4 percent of the people taking the poll are on dial-up.

New playlists
I've spent the last three days uploading new tracks for the station. This should hopefully take care of any distortion problems caused by the version of the Live365 upload software I was using. I have also created a new hour long playlist with just ragtime music in it. That playlist will play at 3pm PST every day. It has more songs in the list than can be played in one hour so I have set the playlist to shuffle. I hope you enjoy the new songs.

The Poll is closed.
The results of the poll are up and the results are conclusive. Of the people who took the poll, 96% are on some type of broadband internet connection. Does this mean DG will change bitrates? I don't know right now. I would have to re-upload all the mp3s to Live365 with the new bitrate and it would be a time intensive project. I'll have to think on it a bit.
Thanks to those who participated.

Internet Speed Poll (above)
I put this poll up to determine how my listeners connect to the internet. I am thinking about bumping the audio stream of Dixieland Gumbo up to 64kbps. Right now the station streams music at 32kbps but I am starting to think (after reading several threads in the Live365 forums) that the cause of the audio distortion that is being experienced by some listeners is being caused the bitrate and how some MP3 players react to it. So if I can determine that only a small amount (or none) of the listeners will be affected by the change, I will implement the conversion to 64kbps.
So, if you listen to Dixieland Gumbo, please take this poll so I can better the listening experience for all.

Note: The poll will close on April 15.

Garbled Songs
Recently, I have been told that some of the songs in the playlist are garbled and moving at half speed. Please, if you hear one, write the name of the song down and send me an e-mail so I can see what is different about that song from the other songs. They all are fine when I upload them. The distortion is coming from upstream.
I am beginning to wonder if this is happening because of the bitrate I am using, 32kbps. I use this low rate so that people on dial-up can still listen to the station. If the bitrate is the problem, I might have to use a higher rate that will be too much for some people on dial-up. I'll do some research in the Live365 forums to try and find answers.
